Eating Disorder Treatment
Care Without Judgment, for Adults 17+
Food and body image can take up more space in your head than they should. You might skip meals, plan your day around what you will or won’t eat, binge and feel out of control afterward, or try to make up for eating in ways that worry you. Eating disorders are medical and psychiatric conditions. They are not choices, and they are not about willpower. At Mental HealthWorks PLLC, our eating disorder treatment in Nashua, NH gives adults (ages 17+) a place to be evaluated without judgment and to start building a plan.
We see patients across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine, in person and by telehealth when it is a safe fit. You can reach out for yourself, or because you are worried about someone else.
Eating Disorder Care in Nashua, NH
What Eating Disorders Are and When to Get Help
Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other patterns of disordered eating that cause distress or affect health. Common signs include a constant preoccupation with food or body image, strict rules around eating, eating in secret, feeling unable to stop eating, and compensating after meals. Many people also notice mood changes, anxiety, or pulling away from friends and family.
You do not need to look a certain way to deserve help, and you do not need to wait until things feel severe. Earlier care tends to be easier on the body and on daily life.
Eating disorders also rarely show up alone. They often occur with anxiety, depression, and OCD. Treating those conditions is part of the work.
Here is what our provider does, and where we work with others:
- Psychiatric evaluation to understand your symptoms, history, and any overlapping conditions
- Medication management for co-occurring symptoms when it is clinically appropriate
- Skills-based support, drawing on CBT-informed care and approaches like DBT for managing urges and emotions
- Coordination with your primary care doctor, a dietitian, or a higher level of care
Eating disorders can affect physical health as well as mood and thinking. Part of the first visit is deciding whether outpatient care is the right level of care for you right now. If it is not, we will help you find one that is.
Seeing Your Provider by Video, and When In Person Matters
Telehealth works well for many people with eating disorders. It lets you attend visits without worrying about being seen at an office, and it makes regular follow-up easier to keep.
It has limits, though. Your provider will tell you which visits can happen by video and which need to be in person. If your symptoms call for a higher level of care, that comes first, whatever the format.

You will meet with Cara-Jean, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, in person or by video, depending on what is safe and appropriate for you. Expect a conversation, not a checklist. Your provider will ask about:
- How eating and body image affect your days, and how long this has been going on
- Your physical health, including anything that has changed recently
- Mood, anxiety, sleep, and any substance use
- What support you have at home and what you want from treatment
From there, you will leave with a plan. That may include follow-up visits, medication if it is appropriate, and referrals when other support is needed.
